Everyone wants an apartment that is stylish, artistically eclectic, and that matches their personality and interests in a way that makes them feel like home. But these themed apartments take decorating inspiration to the next level by creating exaggerated pop culture tributes, refurbished and creating instantly recognizable, vibrantly styled havens for lovers of everything from steampunk to Star Trek.

While we (unfortunately) not all can live in the USS Enterprise, we can still enjoy the creativity of these fabulous apartments and perhaps find our own inspiration to create our own quirky and fun spaces.

When Tony Alleyne divorced, he decided to turn lemons into lemonade by turning his apartment in Leicestershire, England, into a Trekkie’s paradise. Over a period of 10 years, he rigged his apartment, did the job himself without the help of contractors or builders, and created the ultimate ode to Star Trek. A full-scale replica of the Enterprise’s iconic console, Scotty’s iconic carriers, and a plethora of architectural details and beautifully recreated objects from the famous fictional ship complete the Trek lover’s space.

Do you like Super Mario Bros? Of course we all do! But not all of us have the space or resources to turn our apartments into a deceived Nintendo nation worthy of the Iconic Brothers themselves. Located in Tokyo, this space is available for rent on Airbnb so anyone can get a taste of life in a kitsch (but fabulous) version of one of the most iconic games of all time. The devil is really in the details of this apartment, from the yellow question blocks to the mushroom patterned fabric and all the other little quirks that make any Mario fan’s dream come true.

Straight out of a Miyazaki movie like Howl’s moving castle, this steampunk themed apartment ticks all the boxes. Zeppelins? To verify. Submarine-style front door? Understood. Metal gears and industrial accessories taken from real foundries? You know. This 1,800-square-foot New York apartment is authentically steampunk, from the larger items like 500-pound gears on the ceiling to the smallest details like old keys used as cabinet door handles. The bed can even be raised and lowered using a switch made from a deactivated bomb!

Marvel’s behemoth franchise The Avengers is perfectly represented in this chic decor that is both daring and sophisticated. Singapore’s Absolook Interior Design created this Avengers-themed apartment whose exaggerated details, like the SHIELD symbol in the living room and the iconic Avengers “A” in the dining room, blend perfectly with the clean lines, Sharp angles and subtle touches of color present in the rest of the space. Who wouldn’t want the best superheroes in the world to watch over them while they dine, or the Hulk glaring in the kitchen as they cook up a midnight snack?

A galaxy far, far away

Star wars fans are known to have some pretty cool loot – but most of them don’t devote their entire apartment to the legend of Lucas. Collector Choo Wong has succeeded in making his space an ode to Star wars it’s chic and stuffed with goodies without looking cluttered. Darth Vader himself would be proud of the sophisticated setup of the house, including oddly lit black cabinets from above and a decidedly Sith Lord vibe. Wong displays his collection in style and an eye for design that creates livable and fun space. Just take a look at the shelf which is an ode to the most famous gangster in the galaxy: Jabba the Hutt.

These five themed apartments are all over the top in their own way, but any pop culture lover will appreciate the attention to detail and kitschy design touches that are put into them.
