An affordable home in a £ 7.9million new development in Oldham is a ‘dream come true’ for a family stuck sharing a room during the lockdown.
The First Choice Homes Oldham housing association has taken over all of the homes in the newly constructed Suthers Court estate in north Werneth, providing affordable housing for families in the borough.
The development is divided into nine two bedroom houses, 25 three bedroom houses and 11 four bedroom houses and are all available at affordable rent.
Resident Forida Begum is among those who obtained the keys to a new house as part of the project.
After waiting for a property that meets her family’s needs, she says she now looks forward to a better future.
âWe used to be terribly overcrowded, with my husband, three children and I sharing only one room,â she said.
âIt was a struggle with no space or privacy, especially during the recent closures, and it hit us all badly.
âWhen I found out I had this house, it was a dream come true. It will make such a big difference to us and I can’t wait to move in.
The subdivision is First Choice’s third-largest site to date and is part of the Housing Association’s plans to provide 850 affordable, high-quality housing in and around the borough by 2026.
Work on Suthers Court began in November 2019 by the association’s building partner, Keepmoat.
Joel Owen, Director of Development for First Choice, said: âThis development is a significant investment in our housing stock and the project team overcame unprecedented challenges during the pandemic to safely deliver a range of homes from high quality essentials that will help meet local needs. need housing.
