Designate Liz caan and her family have lived in a historic home in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts for nearly two decades. But it was only last year, a year in which many of us have spent unprecedented time at home – that she has sought to lend her design expertise clean live for the first time. The end result includes a completely remodeled kitchen that is now a must-see for all of his family.

“I think the beauty of this house is that it is constantly evolving,” said Caan. Beautiful House. “The pieces were moved and reused. I didn’t throw anything away. I salvaged. I moved the art. I sold old furniture and replaced it with antiques mainly because I had it. fed up with looking at cheap and poorly made furniture I’m sure it was made in a factory overseas. The designer adds that she was really focused on what was important to her and what was not , that’s what shaped its design decisions.

Particularly important was the renovation of the home’s kitchen, as Caan’s family of five frequent this space the most. Here, she transformed an outdated space into a modern oasis, using radiant Belgian blue stone floors, sourced from Marmi Natural Stone, as well as cabinets and a sink from deVOL Kitchens. These latter items were all made in the UK, which reminded Caan of his family heritage. “My grandfather was from England and my father flew hot air balloons with the Unit Jack flag on them,” she tells us.

The furnishings and decor in the room are equally personal, with almost all of the items sourced from vendors and artisans that Caan knows and admires, and has worked with for years. “I wanted this kitchen to have a soul and I wanted to be surrounded by things that I love made by people that I love,” she adds. This warmth is underlined by a variety of fixtures which give an inviting glow.

Ultimately, Caan sought to create a stronger connection between interior and exterior in the home’s kitchen, while also improving functionality and efficiency – and that’s certainly what she accomplished. .
