Jordan and Drew Porter aren’t originally from Philadelphia, but they found the perfect home and neighborhood when they moved there for Drew to attend medical school.
Jordan, an occupational therapist, is from Atlanta, and Drew, an orthopedic surgeon, is from Boston, where they met when they were students.
They rented in Fairmount for 4.5 years before purchasing a century-old three bedroom, 1 ½ bathroom home on a tree-lined street in 2017.
“It was like the perfect blend of city life and peace and quiet,” Jordan said. “We loved how intimate and close to everything it was. We love our neighbors. They know your name and bring you packages.
An added bonus – especially when COVID-19 hit – was the partially shaded outdoor space for them and their English Bulldog.
But the couple plan to leave Philadelphia when Drew completes his residency next year and likely takes a scholarship elsewhere.
The 1,740 square foot home opens to an open concept living and dining area, but the main gathering space is in the high ceiling finished basement with a separate utility room and ample storage space. .
The kitchen has stainless steel appliances and open shelving, and Jordan says that’s one of the things that first caught her eye.
The powder room is on the ground floor and the second floor has three bedrooms and a full bathroom. The master bedroom benefits from abundant natural light and ample storage space. One of the other bedrooms serves as a shared office.
The house is close to the Art Museum, OCF Cafe and Green Street Dog Park.
It is listed by Barbara Nevitt of Coldwell Banker Realty for $ 475,000.
